Casa Supernova (for Zach)
(some of the rhymes are goofy but so what. I feel I need to write about it rather than shut up so here we go…)
You were an Adventur-o-saurus
The only dinosaur not killed
By that meteorus, a survivor, a sojourner
Traveling the world telling tall tales of truth
To any youth that would listen and
Man did they listen with rapture and awe
To all those words that could thaw the coldest
Most cynical hearts, you spat your words
Quicker than the Flash or Usain Bolt
In a hundred metre dash with those quick flipping
Lips healing more people than any episode
Of M.A.S.H.
You were invincible, a Transformer
A natural performer, a Blackfoot alchemist
Taking the darkness that found you
How profound you becoming a Casa-Supernova
Sun bursting the rest of us with your beauty
I don’t believe anyone is ever
‘Larger than life” there are just those who
Are willing to step in to and live the life
They’ve been given and when they do
They inspire us, set a fire in us, encouraging us
To look at ourselves and say thusly like Bruce Lee
“What am I doing? Am I really living my life?”
This was just one of your many gifts of magic
When I heard the news I thought
Maybe you died wrestling an alligator
Or a sabre tooth tiger, or maybe
You were crushed by a Heavy Cookie or
More likely pushed off a cliff by a Mastodon or
Maybe you were challenged to battle
By Ogopogo and it was one of those legendary, epic
Rock ‘em sock ‘em robot duels that laid waste
To the landscape like Godzilla versus Mechagodzilla
But instead of dying you rose triumphant
And when it was over Ogopogo like so many others
Before him became your best friend and family
Because you knew
Your family can never be too big and
If you make enough friends in this life
You’ll never die
It’s hard to believe that you’re dead, I can’t wrap
My heart or my head around it, it doesn’t seem possible
That anything in this stupid world could ever beat you
But I suppose it makes sense if it had to happen
Then it would take a motherfucking train
To kill you
Rest in poetry
Rest in peace
Rest in power
