Here we are now entertain us

First off, I need to say thanks to Chris Gilpin for putting this site together. It looks terrific. Get a hold of Chris if you want something similar put together for yourself. Also, I want to thank “Evil” Patrick Shannon, Linsday Alley and Ezra Letra for taking a lot of the photos for this site. They are dynamic photographers.

So why now? Well, I recently turned 50 years old and I’ve been doing spoken word for a little while now and believe it or not I want to raise my profile in the world out there and in here on the internet. When I perform at shows people often ask me if I have a web presence or a web site. If I am asked to do interviews, I get the same question and the answer up until now has been no.

And believe it or not all those tiny voices in my head keep telling me, I haven’t done anything yet, I haven’t done enough, I have to accomplish something before I die and maybe this website will help in that if it does what I want it will connect me with people around the world who I would never have made contact with if this wasn’t here.

Right now the site is comprised of basic info about me and some of the work and projects, I do. It has audio from my first few CD’s. Putting them up on here is necessary but it was also a little embarrassing in a way. A lot of the stuff from those first couple CDs is not something I would write today but I thought it was important to at least show where I started and where I am right now.

What I want to do is have new audio up here on a regular basis. I want to try and have this blog be a place for ideas and conversation about spoken word in Canada, what we are doing with it in this country, how it’s different from other places and why does it seem so essential for so many people. Those sorts of things.

So that’s where things are at right now. I hope you like the site. Take a tour around. I’ll be here. I hope you are too.
