DESCRIPTION:Host Lindsay Glauser Kwan \nFeatures: Poetry and Dance Amanda and Celeste \nFeaured Poets LeaTaranto\, Allan Hill\, Susan Cormier\, RC Weslowski\, Candie Tanaka\, Timothy Shay \nAll the poets write new work based on the paintings at the exhibition \nIn this show are paintings and multi media pieces that draw upon the artists experience as a traveller. Depicting energy\, gestures…allowing sound\, music and rhythm to drive the image. They reflect the artists experience\, the constant shifting from city to city\, movement\, all the uncertainty\, and the life of the moment they were created in. \nThe works begin as sketches. Small scribbles and swirls\, dots and scratches…influenced by the environment\, the sound of cars\, peoples voices\, whatever is happening right there. Colors enter the work that have been absorbed in in his travels\, sounds\, stains on a subway tube ticket\, moss and ivy\, racks of fabric\, devotional imagery\, advertisements and candy wrappers\, the water running down the wall of a building and most recently he has begun to incorporate street posters\, flyers\, bits of newspaper\, anything and everything…all the lines\, colors and titles are a log of those moments. \nDerek Gillingham is an artist who attended OCAD University in the 1970’s\, traveled and lived extensively throughout North America…Toronto\, New York\, Montreal\, Vancouver and San Francisco\, as well as living in London\, UK where he has recently exhibited his work. \nNew Work From The Road\nby Derek Gillingham\nOpening Reception: Th Jan 8\, 7-9pm\nArtist in attendance | Free Admission\nExhibition continues to Su Feb 8\, 2015 \n
